Warren Wilson College
I showed up on the doorstep of Warren Wilson for freshman orientation without knowing what I was getting into. I had been unable to visit colleges during my senior year of highschool, yet somehow I got the sense that Warren Wilson was for me. Actually, arriving there was a little bit like heaven. I found that I was one freak among many and that I had many shared interests with newly found friends.
One of my greatest nonacademic endeavors at WWC was joining the Vegan Food Coop. A small group of us (around 12 give or take) wanted to eat wholesome homecooked meals rather than the mass produced cafeteria fare. On an extreme budget (2 $ a day per person!) we did all the planning, shopping, cooking and cleaning to feed each other. As you can imagine, this was not without its difficulties and certainly brought us close together. To this day, some of my dearest people are old coop buddies!
